Behind the meter

What does it mean that a solar system is installed "behind the meter"?

A solar system that supplies a customer with electricity directly is connected before the electricity meter from your grid company. Concretely, this means that your electricity consumption will first be covered by power from the solar system. If the plant does not produce enough to cover your consumption, the plant switches automatically and smoothly to the public grid.

Direct supply has a number of advantages. Not least economic, as you do not pay transport tariffs to the local grid company and Energinet. These tariffs are steadily increasing due to the massive expansion of our electricity grid and will increase every year.

In addition, locally produced solar power protects against blackouts and other disruptions in the public electricity grid.

The solar system can often advantageously be combined with a battery and in this way increase your consumption of self-produced power and ensure a stable electricity supply.

The solution makes it possible to shorten the waiting time for a larger grid connection and to replace emergency power generators.
